This page explains which personal data MeJuvante processes when you visit this website and when you use the Nookmind app, why we do it, and what your rights are. The short version: your files, boards, questions and answers never leave your computer.
Who is responsible
Responsible for data processing (the controller under the GDPR) is MeJuvante GmbH, Robert-Bosch-Str. 4b, 35440 Linden, Germany. Email: work@mejuvante.net.
[[DATA PROTECTION OFFICER: name and contact, or delete this line if MeJuvante does not need one]]
Nookmind in short
Nookmind is built so that your study material stays with you:
- The app reads your files on your own PC. Files, boards (nooks), questions, answers and chats never leave your PC.
- The AI runs locally on your computer. We do not see what you ask or what it answers.
- We only receive what is needed to sign you in, check your licence and help you when you ask for support. This page lists exactly what that is.
Visiting this website
This website runs on a server of netcup GmbH in Germany. When you open a page, your browser sends the technical data every website needs to deliver a page: your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, and your browser and operating system. We use it only to send you the page and to protect the server against attacks.
[[SERVER LOGS: say whether the web server keeps access logs with IP addresses, and for how long - check the server set-up]]
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in a working and secure website.
This website uses no cookies, no advertising or tracking tools and no social media plugins. Fonts are served from our own server, not from Google or another font service.
Settings saved in your browser
Two settings are saved in your browser (local storage), and only when you choose them: light or dark mode ("nookmind-theme") and the page language ("nookmind-lang"). They stay on your device, are never sent to us and contain nothing about you. You can delete them at any time in your browser settings.
Saving them is strictly necessary for a function you asked for (section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG).
Download information and the installer
To show whether a download is available, the page loads one small file ("latest.json") from Amazon Web Services (AWS S3, data centre in Frankfurt, eu-central-1). When you click a download button, the installer also comes straight from AWS S3. As with any download, AWS sees your IP address and browser data.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (showing and delivering the download you asked for).
Counting visits
This website does not count visits at the moment. No visit counter runs on it.
The early access form
If you sign up for early access, we receive your email address and, if you fill them in, your name and what you study, plus the language of the page. The form sends this to our own server (the Nookmind Controller, Germany). A hidden field helps us block spam bots.
We use the data only to invite you to the Nookmind pilot and to write to you in your language. Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw it at any time by email to work@mejuvante.net; we then delete your sign-up.
We keep your sign-up until you withdraw or until the early access programme ends. [[RETENTION: how long after the pilot ends sign-ups are deleted]]
The Nookmind app: what stays on your PC
Nookmind works on your own PC. Your files, your boards (nooks), your questions, the answers and your chats are processed only there and never sent to us or anyone else. The AI model runs locally.
Uninstalling the app deletes all Nookmind data on your PC (since version 0.8.1). Installing an update keeps it.
Downloads the app makes
To work offline, the app downloads its parts once and again when they are updated: the AI engine from GitHub, AI models from Hugging Face, and installers and updates from AWS S3 (Frankfurt). As with any download, these services see your IP address. They never receive your files or questions.
Signing in
From version 0.9.0 you sign in with Google. Google tells MeJuvante your verified email address and your Google account ID. We use them for your licence and for support. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performing our contract with you).
Licence checks
When you activate Nookmind, and about once a day after that, the app sends the data below to the Nookmind Controller, MeJuvante’s server in Germany. Purpose: your licence, the 2-device limit, support and security.
Your IP address is used only to limit how many requests can be made (protection against abuse) and is not stored. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (licence) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (security and preventing abuse).
- your email address and account
- a random device ID, stored only as a SHA-256 hash (no serial numbers, no MAC address)
- the device name and Windows version
- memory (RAM), graphics card and its memory, number of CPU threads and free disk space
- the AI model you chose, the app version, the update channel and the time of the last start
Support
When you ask for help in the app or by email to work@mejuvante.net, your request is processed in Microsoft 365 and in the Nookmind Controller, and we reply by email to your sign-in address. Device details are added only if you tick the box for them.
Requests are deleted 6 months after they are closed, or after 12 months if they were never closed. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR for questions outside a contract.
How long we keep data
Account and licence data are kept as long as your account exists and are deleted when you ask us to. Backups of the Nookmind Controller are encrypted, made every night and kept for 30 days, so deleted data is gone from them after 30 days at the latest.
To delete your online account, write to work@mejuvante.net. Data the law requires us to keep (for example invoices, once payments start) is kept only for the period the law sets.
Service providers and transfers outside the EU
We use these service providers, bound by data processing agreements where the law requires them:
Google, Microsoft and AWS may process data outside the EU, in particular in the USA. These transfers are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or on the EU standard contractual clauses.
- Google (sign-in)
- Microsoft (support email, Microsoft 365)
- Amazon Web Services (downloads and backups, data centre in Frankfurt)
- netcup GmbH (servers in Germany)
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict its processing, to receive it in a portable format and to object to processing based on our legitimate interests (Art. 15-21 GDPR). You can withdraw a consent at any time; this does not affect processing that happened before.
Just write to work@mejuvante.net. You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one where you live or the one responsible for MeJuvante: the Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (HBDI), Gustav-Stresemann-Ring 1, 65189 Wiesbaden, Germany.
Changes to this policy
We update this page when Nookmind or this website changes. The date at the top shows the current version.
